I'm Shani

Your therapist & relationship coach

I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Shani, and I am the founder of Soul Well Psychotherapy. This practice was created with one mission in mind: to nurture curiosity about our own wellness. I serve as a therapist, coach, teacher, and translator of lived experiences—helping people redefine the way they relate to themselves and to others. Life often moves so quickly that we forget to pause and reflect on what we’re actually experiencing. Therapy isn’t about judgment or fitting into a box; it’s about creating space to explore, understand, and know ourselves deeply, so that we can reclaim authority over our own stories.

MY JOURNEY

I earned my Bachelor's in Psychology in 2005, my Master's in Counseling Psychology in 2007, and my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2012. I'm now a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland and Virginia.

Navigating that path with known but untreated ADHD taught me lessons I now carry into every session: how much shifts when we name our experiences accurately, ask for help without shame, and radically accept our own needs and differences — and how limiting it is to believe there's only one right way to succeed. What I hope to offer the people I work with is exactly what those years gave me: acceptance doesn't require perfection, success isn't defined by having it all figured out, motivation can grow from compassion instead of self-criticism, and life can be deeply meaningful even while you're still finding your footing.

My Approach

How I can Help

I believe the best kind of growth happens when we feel accepted just as we are. I take an integrative approach that’s shaped by who you are, how you learn, and what you're ready for. I show up as my real self and aim to create a space where you can do the same. By honoring where you’re at and what kind of change you're looking for, that’s where the magic happens. I use various approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Attachment Theory, The Gottman method and Executive Functioning tools.

Right now, I practice solo—but I’m also a connector at heart. I offer individual therapy, couples coaching, group support, supervision for LGPCs seeking mentorship and clinical hours, and private workshops within my areas of expertise.

I believe we can learn a lot from one another, but no one person is the right fit for every need. If something comes up that’s outside of my scope, I won’t leave you hanging. I’ll work with you to find the right resources or referrals that better meet your needs.

If you’re curious about whether we’re a good fit, or have questions about the support I offer, feel free to reach out.

DON'T DO IT ALL ALONE
